Victorian MP Jill Hennessy, who was once touted as a potential successor to Premier Daniel Andrews, will not seek re-election in 2022.
Mr Andrews announced the Altona MP, as well as Ringwood MP Dustin Halse and Yan Yean MP Danielle Green, would quit politics at the next election, scheduled for November 26. Ms Hennessy has served as attorney-general, as well as minister for health, ambulance services and workplace safety.
The premier said she has delivered "some of the biggest reforms" in Victoria, including the nation's first voluntary assisted dying scheme, wage theft and workplace manslaughter laws, nurse-to-patient ratios and safe access zones for women's health services.
"I want to thank Jill for the work she's done, her years of service to the parliament and the Labor Party, and her dedication to our great movement," Mr Andrews said in a statement.
"On a personal note, I want to thank her for her years of friendship and unwavering support - and wish her, Bernie and their daughters all the best for the future."
In December 2020, Ms Hennessy announced she would step down as the state's chief lawmaker to focus on her two daughters as they prepared for their final years of high school.
At the time, she planned to contest the 2022 election but she has since reconsidered.
"No matter how precious your family is, politics can blind you their needs if you're not careful. And life is short," Ms Hennessy said in a statement posted online.
"After some reflection, I came to the view that making the commitment to serve another four-year term was incompatible with the other important priorities in my life, especially if I wanted to give them all the best of me."
Ms Green was first elected as the member for Yan Yean in 2002 and by the time the next election comes, she will have represented her community for 20 years.
Earlier this year, Ms Green announced she was taking a period of personal leave after she came under fire for staying at a house in Warrnambool, some 300 kilometres from her electorate office, during the lockdown.
Mr Halse, a first-term MP, has also made headlines after he was accused by a Liberal MP of having sex in his parliamentary office in December 2020.
