More than 3.5 million dollars will be invested in upgrading Southend Jetty in South Australia’s South East, supporting the region’s rock lobster industry.
The 67-year-old jetty is one of the busiest working jetties in the state and plays a vital role in commercial fishing operations near Beachport.
It supports the Southern Zone Rock Lobster Fishery, which contributed more than 144 million dollars to South Australia’s economy in the 2023–24 financial year.
Recent trade data shows South Australian lobster exports have more than doubled over the past year, highlighting the industry’s growing economic significance.
The upgrade will involve replacing three jetty platforms using steel and low-maintenance composite materials to improve safety and durability.
The works follow storm damage sustained in July last year and build on earlier repairs completed in 2024.
Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2026 and is expected to support local jobs while maintaining access for commercial fishers during the build.
