SOUTH AUSTRALIA’S WORST GRAIN ROADS TARGETED

South Australian grain producers, truck drivers and regional communities are being urged to name the state’s most dangerous and deteriorated roads as Grain Producers South Australia relaunches its Worst Grain Roads campaign.

The organisation is seeking nominations for roads that are unsafe, inefficient or in urgent need of repair, with the information to be used to push governments for funding.

The campaign attracted almost 60 nominations when it was first run in 2022, with Upper Yorke Road between Arthurton and Kulpara named the state’s worst grain road.

The 35-kilometre stretch was subsequently funded for a major upgrade, with reconstruction completed in May last year.

GPSA says the result demonstrates the impact local evidence and sustained advocacy can have, with poor roads continuing to increase freight costs, vehicle maintenance and safety risks across the state.

Nominations can be made at www.worstgrainroadssa.com.au, with GPSA asking road users to provide photographs and firsthand accounts of the condition and safety of their local grain routes.
