The federal MP whose electorate covers the bulk of the South Australian River Murray and its communities says the new state premier has failed his first big leadership test.
Member for Barker Tony Pasin says the Premier is too focused on high-profile announcements and appearances than effective flood mitigation and preparation:
"It beggars belief that we have lost the opportunity to mitigate for this loss. I was in the Riverland the other day and before that on the weekend, and people feel like they've been forgotten about.
"It's all very well and good for the premier, who is getting a bit of a moniker as the number one ticket holder in South Australia because he spends a little bit too much time focused on golf tournaments, car races and footy festivals.
"They're just beside themselves that he decided to visit Renmark, stand on a levee bank, take a scenic tour in a helicopter and leave. That's not the leadership you need in a crisis. This is his first big test and I think he's failing it."
The Premier's office has been contacted offering an opportunity to respond.
