RURAL HEALTH MONTH CELEBRATES COUNTRY HEALTH WORKERS

By Jessica Dempster
Australia's rural and remote health workforce is being recognised and celebrated this November as part of Rural Health Month, with Australians being encouraged to share positive stories celebrating the people who keep regional communities healthy.
National Rural Health Commissioner Professor Jenny May says the seventh annual event provides an opportunity for health professionals to come together, share expertise and recognise the achievements of their colleagues.
Launched by Rural Health Pro in 2020, the initiative includes professional development and networking opportunities, helping workers exchange ideas and approaches that could be applied in other rural communities.
Rural Health Pro manager Jessica Rostas says members of the public are being encouraged to recognise nurses, doctors, midwives and other health professionals through the #RuralPositive campaign.
Stories can be shared on social media, through local newspapers or radio, while nominations are also open for the National Rural and Remote Health Awards.
