Rural Aid Calls for Farm Recovery Volunteers

Rural Aid is encouraging Australians to support farming communities during National Volunteer Week by taking part in recovery events across regional Australia.

The organisation’s next Farm Recovery Event will be held in Loxton in South Australia’s Riverland region from the thirty-first of May to the fifth of June, where drought conditions continue to place pressure on farm businesses, livestock management and family wellbeing.

Volunteers will assist with fencing, repairs, property clean-ups and general recovery work aimed at restoring essential farm infrastructure and easing pressure on producers facing difficult seasonal conditions.

Rural Aid Chief Executive John Warlters says volunteer support remains central to long-term recovery, helping farming families rebuild while also showing regional communities they are not facing hardship alone.

Citrus grower Tim Kemp says volunteers have completed work in days that would otherwise have taken weeks, allowing farmers to focus on rebuilding operations and preparing for the future.

Further recovery events are planned later this year, including in North Queensland following monsoonal flooding. Rural Aid says no farming experience is required, with training and equipment provided on site.
