NSW Farmers is urging shoppers to choose Australian-grown food this Christmas, as farming families continue to face climate extremes and mounting pressures on land and water.
NSW Farmers Vice President Rebecca Reardon said supporting local producers could be as simple as checking labels at the supermarket.
“Aussie grown products will typically have a green and gold kangaroo or country-of-origin label, so we encourage you to buy Australian where you can,” Mrs Reardon said.
She said many farmers were under strain following coastal floods earlier this year and ongoing drought in parts of the state, alongside challenges from renewable energy developments and land use changes.
“Whether it’s a pork roast, cherries or the cream on your pavlova, choosing Aussie produce is choosing to support the families who work hard to keep food on our tables."
