NSW FARMERS CRITICAL OF STATE BUDGET

NSW Farmers has criticised the New South Wales State Budget, claiming it falls short of the investment needed to support the state's agricultural sector.

The organisation says while funding has been confirmed for areas including feral pig control, cattle tick management, regional roads and agricultural training, those measures had already been announced and do not address broader industry challenges.

NSW Farmers President Xavier Martin says agriculture contributes more than $25 billion annually to the state's economy and remains central to regional employment and growth.

Mr Martin says the industry has presented government with a roadmap aimed at growing the sector to $30 billion by 2030, including proposals covering research and development, biosecurity, water security, transport infrastructure and workforce development.

He argues farmers are facing mounting pressures from rising production costs, natural disasters, deteriorating local roads and increasing tax burdens.

With the next election approaching, NSW Farmers says it will now seek firm funding commitments from all political parties and will closely assess their support for the sector's priorities.
