Queensland rugby league fans are celebrating a historic day for the Brisbane Broncos, with both the men’s and women’s teams winning their respective NRL premierships on Sunday — the first time a club has secured both titles on the same day.
In the NRLW grand final, the Broncos women staged a thrilling comeback to defeat the Sydney Roosters 22-18 in front of more than 46,000 fans at Accor Stadium, ending the Roosters’ hopes of an undefeated season.
The victory marks the Broncos women’s first premiership since 2020.
Later that evening, the men’s side broke a 19-year drought with a 26-22 win over Melbourne, clinching their seventh NRL title and their first since 2006.
Reece Walsh delivered a standout performance, leading a comeback from ten points down.
The victory also saw head coach Michael Maguire join an elite group to win premierships with two clubs, alongside Wayne Bennett and Jack Gibson. The Broncos now boast titles in 1992, ’93, ’97, ’98, 2000, 2006 and 2025.
