Australian avocado growers and exporters will soon gain access to new tools designed to protect fruit quality as exports continue to expand.
A new project delivered by Applied Horticultural Research, in collaboration with Avocados Australia and funded by Hort Innovation, will benchmark avocado quality on retail shelves in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur through weekly monitoring over two years.
By linking shelf performance with supply chain data, the project aims to identify causes of damage and provide practical feedback to growers and exporters. Competitor fruit from countries including Mexico, Peru, Chile, Kenya and the United States will also be assessed.
Industry leaders say the initiative reinforces Australia’s commitment to supplying consistent, high-quality avocados to international markets, helping build trust with retailers and consumers as global demand grows.
