MOUSE ACTIVITY FALLS, SHIFTING ZP50 ACCESS

Latest national monitoring results have shown a decline in mouse activity across several of Australia's grain-growing regions, following last month's approval of an emergency permit allowing growers access to the higher-strength mouse bait ZP50.

The easing in pressure has now triggered changes to eligibility, with three Western Australian grain-growing zones moving into the low activity category and no longer eligible for use under the permit.

In South Australia, the Mid North–Lower Yorke–Eyre agroecological zone has shifted from high to moderate activity, and remains eligible under revised thresholds.

Grain Producers Australia says the changes reflect how quickly mouse populations can shift, and the importance of ongoing monitoring under the permit system.

GPA spokesperson Andrew Weidemann says growers should check the latest status regularly, as eligibility can change each fortnight with updated monitoring data.

He says ensuring use aligns with current classifications is essential for both compliance and effective control.
