The Federal Government says more than 80-thousand tonnes of additional urea fertiliser has now been secured to support Australian agriculture through ongoing global supply disruptions.
The latest shipments have been locked in through the Government’s seven-and-a-half billion dollar Fuel and Fertiliser Security Facility, in partnership with fertiliser company Incitec Pivot.
The urea will be sourced from Indonesia, with one shipment forming part of a broader 250-thousand tonne supply agreement secured through Indonesian producer PT Pupuk.
The Government says six shipments totalling more than 209-thousand tonnes of urea have now been secured, with the first deliveries expected to arrive in Australia within weeks.
Agriculture Minister Julie Collins says maintaining reliable access to fertiliser is critical to keeping food production moving and providing certainty for growers ahead of current and future planting programs.
The Government says the measures are designed to help farmers manage supply uncertainty linked to conflict in the Middle East, while strengthening food security and supporting agricultural exports across the Indo-Pacific region.
