More Bird Flu Cases Confirmed in South Australia

South Australia has recorded another confirmed case of H5 bird flu in wild birds, with testing confirming a second infected silver gull at Robe.

The latest result brings the state's total to 40 confirmed cases, while a further 29 wild seabird samples from locations including the Coorong, Kangaroo Island, Southend and Baudin Rocks are awaiting confirmatory testing.

Authorities say there continues to be no detections of H5 bird flu in poultry or other livestock, and the risk to human health remains low.

Meanwhile, Victoria has identified six additional suspected cases in crested terns from Portland and Nelson Bay, with samples undergoing confirmation at the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness.

Authorities in both states are urging the public to avoid handling sick or dead birds, record what they observe and report sightings to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline as surveillance efforts continue.
