Chef, restaurateur and farmer Matt Moran has been appointed ambassador for the national Plus One Serve campaign aimed at increasing vegetable consumption across Australia.

The announcement was made at Hort Connections in Adelaide, with the initiative encouraging Australians to add one extra serve of vegetables to their diet each day by Twenty Thirty.

The program is led by AUSVEG and backed by Hort Innovation, with industry figures showing Australians currently eat an average of just one-point-eight serves of vegetables daily — well below recommended health targets.

Mr Moran says supporting the campaign is a natural fit, given his long involvement with Australian growers and sustainable farming practices.

Industry modelling suggests if every Australian added one extra serve of vegetables a day, it could generate four-point-seven billion dollars in economic and health benefits, including savings to the healthcare system and growth across the vegetable supply chain.

AUSVEG says the campaign comes at a critical time for growers, with rising production costs, supply chain pressures and labour challenges continuing to impact confidence across the sector.
