Live sheep export ban is a political distortion

Lake Grace farmer Alan Marshall recently published an article outlining the importance of live sheep export and its role in animal welfare and global food security.

Chief executive Mr Collin Bettles of Grain Producers Australia said the issue of live export needs to be addressed. In an article released by Grain Produces Australia Mr Bettles praised Mr Marshall for an "excellent article".

Mr Bettles is concerned that and industry that is operating with such a high success rate at preventing mortalities could be banned.

"Something’s horribly wrong with the world when an industry that’s operating with a success rate of 99.97 per cent (in preventing mortalities) — remembering there’s no such thing as zero risk — and has responded to so called “public concerns”, is now being banned, to serve a political agenda," Mr Bettles said.
