In what looks like another knee-jerk reaction duck hunting season in Victoria is set to close early for the release of protected species of ground parrot.
Victorian Shooters Fishers and Farmers Party Member of Parliament Geoff Borman said, "There's no reason it couldn't wait for another week and a bit and then the hunting wouldn't be affected at all," Mr Borman told Flow News 24.
Hunting in the past has not been stopped when species have been released Mr Borman called this "another attack by the Minister to have a go at duck hunters, just as far as I can tell because she can."
"The duck hunters actually have been instrumental in actually protecting the parrot in this particular area.
"To close the whole wetland, which is quite huge to be honest, is actually just a farce and it's clearly not in anyone's interest except for the people that are anti-duck hunting.
"To say that they're worried about it upsetting the parrots on a wetland that is kilometers in size It's just ludicrous," Mr Borman said.
