Horticulture growers are being urged to make final submissions to the Horticulture Code of Conduct Review, as the consultation process enters its final stages.

The code regulates trade between growers and traders, setting requirements for transparency, clear contracting and dispute resolution in wholesale horticulture markets.

The review is examining whether the code remains necessary and whether it is operating as intended, including whether it provides adequate protections for growers.

The Victorian Farmers Federation says the process is an important opportunity for growers to share their experiences and highlight ongoing issues in market dealings.

The National Farmers’ Federation Horticulture Council has also welcomed the review, noting the industry has changed significantly since the code was last examined a decade ago.

Council chair Jolyon Burnett says growers continue to face tight margins, rising costs and increasing market concentration, making a strong and modern code essential.

Growers, wholesalers and supply-chain participants are encouraged to contribute before submissions close February 10, with the review’s findings expected to shape wholesale trading arrangements for years to come.
