Grain Growers is calling for greater cooperation between industry and government to prepare for risks that could disrupt production, food security and the wider economy.

The organisation has released its High Impact Risks to the Grain Sector report, identifying the need for a coordinated approach to risk management across the industry.

The report examines risks including import supply disruptions, carpet beetle, the 2023 blue shortage and the grain sector’s growing reliance on digital infrastructure.

Grain Growers CEO Shona Gawel says recent fuel and fertiliser supply pressures have shown how quickly a known risk can become a major disruption.

She says government and industry responded to the immediate threat, but more needs to be done to prepare before future risks emerge.

Grain Growers says no single organisation can manage every challenge alone, with greater awareness, preparation and cooperation needed to build resilience across the grain industry.
