GrainGrowers is urging the Federal Government to prioritise nation-shaping investment in the upcoming budget, warning Australia’s food system faces growing long-term risks.
In its 2026–27 pre-budget submission, the organisation highlights pressures including climate extremes, rising input costs, biosecurity threats and increasing strain on domestic supply chains.
GrainGrowers is calling for targeted funding to protect agricultural land, strengthen freight networks, support farmer mental health and boost export capacity.
Chief Executive Shona Gawel says practical, forward-looking investment is needed to safeguard national food security and maintain Australia’s position as a reliable food supplier.
She says early action can help growers better manage uncertainty while delivering broader economic and regional benefits.
Ms Gawel says collaboration between government and industry will be critical to building resilience in the years ahead.
