Local advocacy group Grain Producers SA has informed growers of its decision to withdraw its membership from national body Grain Producers Australia.
GPSA Chair John Gladigau explained in a letter to members that, despite ongoing efforts to drive reform and build a credible, unified national voice for growers, the board concluded the necessary progress had not been achieved.
Grain Producers Australia is a peak national advocacy body, made up of state farming organisations, representing growers on federal policy, biosecurity, research, and other key industry matters.
GPSA has been a member since GPA’s inception and has contributed financially to support national representation on behalf of South Australian growers.
Following the announcement, GPA issued a statement reaffirming its commitment to national advocacy, noting that its mandate and representative functions remain unchanged.
It highlighted ongoing engagement with government, the Grains Research and Development Corporation, Plant Health Australia, and other national frameworks, including biosecurity and residue monitoring programs.
GPA says it will continue representing growers’ interests in key decisions affecting the sector, supporting a profitable and resilient grains industry despite GPSA’s withdrawal.
