Simone Kain along with her creation George the Farmer were announced as one of the winners of Australia Post's Local Business Heroes program. Simone was one of 100 winners chosen from over 5000 entries, and as part of the victory will receive a $5000 business package to continue to grow the profile of George the Farmer.

George the Farmer is an educational kids character created by Simone with the purpose of teaching kids about the importance of farming and agriculture so they gain an understanding of where their food comes from.

George attends schools to give talks and presentations, has a series of books aimed at children of all ages, and stars in 'paddock to plate' videos to show kids the process which puts food on supermarket shelves and onto their plates.

Simone Kain said the prize money will be put towards a George the Farmer concept store in Penola, where it all began.

Next month we're actually opening up our very first George the Farmer concept store here in Penola in the South East. So that's really exciting. We'll have all of our George the Farmer merchandise in there.
