Further funding to support the phase out of live sheep exports by sea will soon be rolled out, with the Federal Government last week announcing successful grant recipients from recent funding rounds.

The funding forms part of the Farm Business Transition and Livestock Transport Industry Transition programs, aimed at helping businesses adjust ahead of the trade ending by May 2028.

More than 10 million dollars has been allocated under the Farm Business Transition program in the latest round, supporting 180 sheep producers with grants of up to 75 thousand dollars.

The program is designed to help businesses prepare for change, including developing business plans and exploring alternative farming systems or diversification.

A further 690 thousand dollars has been provided through the Livestock Transport Industry Transition program, with 20 operators receiving grants of up to 40 thousand dollars.

Agriculture Minister Julie Collins says the funding will help ensure an orderly transition for the sector.

She says additional grant rounds will open later this year to provide further opportunities for businesses to invest and adapt.
