A new national survey has highlighted mounting fuel pressures across Australia’s red meat industry.

The survey, conducted by the Red Meat Advisory Council in late March, gathered responses from more than 300 businesses across 13 industry sectors.

Findings show an overwhelming reliance on diesel, with 97 per cent of respondents indicating it is essential to their operations.

Concerns around fuel access were widespread, with some regions reporting significant shortfalls in supply.

In Western New South Wales, 28 per cent of respondents said they lacked sufficient fuel to maintain operations, while in Western Australia’s Great Southern region the figure reached 43 per cent.

The survey also identified peak fuel demand periods in autumn and spring, placing further strain on supply chains.

Industry participants say rising prices and limited availability are compounding the issue, creating uncertainty for ongoing operations.
