Fuel Crisis Pressure Mounts on NSW Farmers

NSW Farmers is calling for urgent government intervention, following a high-level roundtable on the state’s escalating fuel crisis.

The meeting, held earlier this week with senior ministers, heard firsthand accounts from rural producers facing tightening diesel supplies and rising costs.

Association President Xavier Martin said the discussion was a critical step in ensuring agriculture remains front of mind in the government’s response.

He warned that, despite assurances of adequate supply, many farmers across regional New South Wales are experiencing shortages, purchase limits and cancelled bulk fuel orders.

Reports have also emerged of fuel being rationed by distributors, alongside price increases between order and delivery, placing further strain on farm businesses.

Mr Martin said current federal measures, including a limited diesel release from reserves, fall well short of what is required to stabilise the sector.

He argued a guaranteed diesel supply for agriculture must be prioritised, warning that without reliable access at sustainable prices, producers may be forced to scale back operations.

The association says any disruption to farm activity could have long-term consequences for food and fibre production, as well as the viability of rural communities.

Farmers experiencing fuel access issues are being urged to report their situation to a newly established federal taskforce, as pressure builds for swift and decisive government action.
