Fruit fly detections in South Australia’s Riverland are continuing to decline, but authorities say the risk remains as seasonal conditions change.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regions reports no detections in 25 of 58 outbreak areas over the past 12 weeks.
Remaining activity is largely concentrated around Renmark, Monash and Barmera.
Fruit Fly Response General Manager Jason Size says autumn is a critical period, particularly as citrus crops begin to develop.
He says residents need to stay vigilant across all parts of their property and maintain strong garden hygiene practices.
Authorities are also reminding people in outbreak and suspension areas not to compost restricted fruit and vegetables, as this can allow fruit fly to breed.
Instead, produce should be securely bagged and p laced in general waste.
Current outbreak restrictions in the Riverland remain in place until mid-December.
