Farmers Take Bushfire Recovery Concerns to Inquiry

The Victorian Farmers Federation has taken the concerns of rural communities to the 2026 Summer Bushfires Inquiry, outlining the challenges faced on the ground.

The organisation told the inquiry its focus was on practical measures, including fuel management, firefighting capacity, water access and the growing complexity of infrastructure across farming regions.

It also highlighted the toll on agriculture, with livestock losses and ongoing animal welfare pressures continuing well beyond the fire front.

In a statement, the federation said reducing risk at a local level must remain central to Victoria’s bushfire approach, alongside strengthening community capability.

It warned the experiences of farmers and regional residents must not be overlooked, particularly as many continue long-term recovery efforts.

The federation says continued support will be critical as affected communities work to rebuild and prepare for future fire seasons.
