Farmers in southern and eastern Australia are facing mounting pressure as drought conditions tighten, with requests for household water and tanks rising sharply.
Rural Aid reports January rainfall across much of the south-east ranked among the driest 10 per cent on record. Victoria and New South Wales recorded their lowest totals since 2013 and 2014, and some water storages have fallen by up to 50 per cent compared with last year.
Rural Aid Chief Executive Officer John Warlters said access to clean water is a daily challenge, affecting all aspects of farm life.
The organisation is delivering water and providing wellbeing support to help families manage routines and care for livestock. Mr Warlters said even small assistance, such as water tanks, can make a significant difference.
