Dairy farmers warn of confusion as milk price complexity grows

In dairy news, Australian Dairy Farmers says increasing complexity in milk pricing is making it harder for producers to compare processor offers ahead of new season contracts.
Under the Dairy Code of Conduct, processors must release opening prices by June 1, but the organisation says a growing mix of bonuses, incentives and conditional payments is obscuring true base prices.
ADF President Ben Bennett says many offers now resemble marketing promotions rather than clear commercial contracts, making financial planning difficult for farmers.
He says producers are struggling to determine whether underlying prices cover production costs, and warns the lack of transparency is undermining informed decision-making across the sector.
Subsequently, the ADF is calling for stronger transparency rules and says it hopes the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission will scrutinise increasingly complex pricing structures.
