The CFA is urging Victorian communities to prepare for the upcoming fire season, with its Get Fire Ready initiative launching this past weekend.

More than 630 CFA brigades will host events across the state throughout October and into November, providing advice on local fire risks and emergency preparation.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan says preparedness can make a significant difference, encouraging people to develop a fire plan and know where to access emergency information.

He says simple measures such as clearing gutters, mowing lawns, trimming branches and setting a watch zone in the VicEmergency app can help reduce risk.

The CFA is also encouraging people to speak with their local brigade about fire risks in their area and how to prepare their property.

Details of local Get Fire Ready events are available through the CFA website at cfa.vic.gov.au/getfireready.
