Victorians are being urged to take steps to prepare for bushfire season, with the CFA launching its annual 'Get Fire Ready' campaign this October.
More than 500 CFA brigades will host open days, community events and preparedness sessions across the state.
The campaign begins on the weekend of October 4 and 5 and will run throughout the month. CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said the events are aimed at raising awareness of local fire risks and encouraging residents to make a plan.
“The seasonal outlook warns parts of Victoria could face an increased fire risk. Get Fire Ready is about taking steps now, not later,” he said.
Brigades will provide advice on property preparation, bushfire planning, and using the VicEmergency app. Events will be held at CFA stations, local community hubs, and regional events, ensuring wide access for residents in both high-risk and lower-risk areas.
The Dimboola brigade, located in a fire-prone part of western Victoria, is among those taking part. Brigade Captain Lyndon Kuhne said "these open days are about connecting with our neighbours and making sure everyone understands what they can do to stay safe. Don’t wait until fire is at your door.”
