Avocado production set to hit record levels

Australia’s avocado industry is set for a significant production rebound, with supply and exports forecast to reach record levels in coming seasons.

A new global report from Rabobank’s RaboResearch division says Australian avocado production is expected to climb to around 170,000 tonnes, following a decline in the 2024-25 season.

The drop was attributed to the natural biennial bearing cycle of avocado trees, where crops produce heavier yields every second year.

RaboResearch senior analyst Michael Harvey says the sector remains on a growth trajectory, supported by increased plantings and improving yields as newer orchards mature.

The expected lift in production is also forecast to boost export volumes, while providing more consistent supply for domestic consumers.

The report says medium-term prospects for the Australian avocado industry remain positive, with both local and international demand continuing to grow.
