AgriFutures Australia has opened applications for a new People and Capability Program, committing up to $200,000 to help levied and emerging industries tackle critical workforce shortages.
The pilot initiative is designed to support practical, industry-led solutions that attract, develop and retain skilled workers across the agricultural supply chain.
From chicken meat and rice to industrial hemp and truffles, workforce attraction and retention remain among the most significant constraints on growth.
AgriFutures General Manager of Levied and Emerging Industries, Samantha Beresford, says labour shortages are a daily reality for rural sectors.
She says access to capable people — from skilled workers on the ground to the next generation of leaders — is increasingly determining whether industries can innovate and remain competitive.
Two funding streams are available, with grants of up to $25,000 for workforce initiatives and up to $10,000 for leadership and capacity building.
Applications will be assessed on strategic alignment, innovation, scalability and measurable outcomes, with the program focused firmly on long-term impact.
Applications open on 16 February and close on 13 March 2026.
