Agriculture Victoria is hosting a series of workshops across Victoria to help producers make informed decisions around this season’s fodder production.

Agriculture Victoria Regional Manager for Meat and Wool, Brad Costin is encouraging producers to attend one of the fodder field days to hear from well-known expert Frank Mickan, to help get the most out of their pasture hay or silage this spring.

Mr Costin said Mr Mickan is an industry-renowned specialist in fodder and pasture conservation who will provide insights into producing high-quality hay and silage.

All workshops will cover the following topics:

  • how to make the best quality hay and silage,

  • fodder quality influence on livestock production,

  • understanding the ensiling process,

  • including additives,

  • storage systems and minimising wastage,

  • And feed testing.

The first of the three workshops will be held on Wednesday September 10 in the South Wast at the Macarthur Recreation Reserve. The second in the North East will be held on the 17th at the Mansfield Golf Club. And the third the following day on the 18th at the Macalister Demonstration Farm in Gippsland.
