In the absence of AFL finals action in Adelaide, authorities are expecting 30,000 final-starved footy fans to turn out at Adelaide Oval on Sunday, 18 September to watch traditional SANFL rivals North Adelaide and Norwood contesting the 2022 premiership.
The Hostplus SANFL League Grand Final between North Adelaide and Norwood on Sunday will be staged amid a ‘Festival of Footy’ Grand Final events in and around Adelaide Oval from midday on match day.
SANFL Chief Executive Officer Darren Chandler expected a big crowd in the first opportunity since 2019 for the SANFL Grand Final to be staged without a cap on spectators.
“In 2018 we saw more than 40,300 spectators at the people witness the 2018 clash between premiers North Adelaide and Norwood – the biggest SANFL Grand Final crowd in 20 years.
“While the on-field action will be intense on Sunday, fans will have added incentive to head to this year’s Grand Final with a ‘Festival of Footy’ to add a real carnival atmosphere to the main event.”
The state government has also declared public transport is free for travel to and from both the Grand Final and the City to Bay Fun Run.
Sports minister Katrine Hildyard said on Wednesday:
"I encourage all South Australians to take advantage of the free public transport on offer this Sunday for both the SANFL Grand Final and Lumary City-Bay Fun Run - two brilliant South Australian events in the heart of our city."
A kids' zone, 'mini Draft combine', food and wine outlets will be on offer, as well as Adelaide Fringe performing artists will be roving around the Oval, including acrobats and stilt walkers in Roosters and Redlegs colours and face painters.
City to Bay entrants will also be given discounted Grand Final tickets and transport back to Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
All day parking for just $5 also is available on Sunday at Wilson Car Parks in the CBD for all City to Bay entrants and anyone attending the SANFL Grand Final.
The SANFL is also working with Novita and Adelaide Oval to provide a dedicated space to assist sensory adults and children.
Tickets for the Hostplus SANFL League Grand Final are on sale via Ticketek. Tickets also will be available for sale on match day at the gate. All under 18s are FREE entry and do not need a ticket.
